Beach tips for families

  • Arrive early. Most popular beaches fill up by 10am in July and August. Aim for 8:30am.
  • Bring shade. Mallorca's sun is strong even in May and September. A UV tent or beach umbrella is essential with young children.
  • Snorkel gear. Even shallow water reveals fascinating sea life. Pack a child-size mask and fins.
  • Blue Flag beaches have lifeguards, clean water certification, and first aid. Check the Blue Flag website before you go.
  • Avoid August midday. 12–4pm is brutal for small children. Build in a siesta back at the accommodation.
  • East coast vs west. East coast beaches (Cala d'Or, Cala Millor) tend to be calmer. West coast (Sóller) has more character but can be windier.
